“Bringing hope to the world is hard when people don’t know God’s saving plan. So, through religious education, we talk a lot about God’s plan, trusting in God, and one of those beautiful theological virtues that we have: faith, hope, and love. When we know God, we can love God. We can trust in His plan, and we have hope for a brighter future,” shared Jessica Melchert, Religious Education Coordinator at St. Sebastian Parish in Isaar.
Jessica’s journey to becoming a catechetical leader wasn’t easy. Saying “yes” to this role meant stepping into a position that requires deep faith, strong leadership, and ongoing formation. Thanks to your support of the Bishop’s Appeal, Jessica receives training and resources from diocesan staff that empower her to guide children and families in their faith. These formation days include Mass, workshops, prayer, and fellowship, giving leaders the tools they need to share Christ’s light.
This past Christmas, that light shone brightly at St. Sebastian Parish when the Christmas program returned for the first time in more than 30 years. Children joyfully shared the Nativity story with their parish community, acting out the birth of Jesus and reminding everyone of the true meaning of Christmas. Moments like these are possible because of your gifts to the Bishop’s Appeal, which provide the training and support needed to bring faith alive in our parishes.

Through the Bishop’s Appeal, hundreds of catechists like Jessica are equipped to walk with young people on their journey to know and love God. They teach prayer, fellowship, and the sacraments, helping children trust in God’s plan and grow in faith. Your generosity also supports Catholic schools and OCIA programs, ensuring people of all ages encounter Jesus and experience the beauty of our Catholic faith.
When you give to the Bishop’s Appeal, you are forming disciples, strengthening parishes, and building the future of our Church. Together, we can ensure that leaders like Jessica continue to inspire and guide the next generation.
