The Bishop’s Appeal 2017 was a tremendous success. More than $5,937,000 was raised to support the ministries of the Diocese of Green Bay. These gifts from 31,300 families will be used without exception to bring the faith to thousands of people across Northeastern Wisconsin.

Listed below are the diocesan ministries that benefit from the Appeal and what percentage of the Bishop’s Appeal they receive.
24% Catholic Charities – The Bishop’s Appeal is one of the largest funding sources for Catholic Charities. They help people with individual and family counseling, financial health services and adoption services and pregnancy counseling to name few of their ministries.
20% Education Department – the Appeal funds 70% of their budget and helps train Catholic school leaders and religious educators in our parishes. The Education department also supports youth ministry and Camp Tekakwitha.
14% Parish Planning & Pastoral Services – the Appeal funds 89% of their budget and helps parishes with planning and training. They also provide best practices in Care Ministry.
14% The New Evangelization – Helping parishes reach out and invite people to grow in their faith is a key part of this department. The New Evangelization also supports adult faith formation, young adult ministry and campus ministry. The Bishop’s Appeal supports more than 94% of their overall budget.
11% Ministry Formation – This critical area helps train and form new deacons and lay ministers.
9% Bishop’s Appeal Expenses – Fundraising costs for the Bishop’s Appeal range from 7 to 9 percent of the amount raised. Expenses include the office staff responsible for planning, developing materials and carrying out the campaign with the help of parish volunteers and staff. At 9% the fundraising costs for the Bishop’s Appeal are very low and well within the Better Business Bureau Charity Standards of 35% for acceptable range of costs to raise a dollar.
3% Divine Worship – The Office of Divine Worship supports the liturgical and sacramental life of parishes by providing training for liturgists and musicians.
3% The Compass Newspaper – The Compass is an award-winning weekly newspaper that breaks open the Catholic faith through articles, columns, news, and spiritual reading. The Compass educates and informs Catholic families and individuals both in print and on its website.
2% Office of Marriage, Family Life & Pro-Life – This important department helps guide and direct the Diocese in Catholic Social Teaching by fostering activities and projects consistent with Catholic teaching and helping us collaborate with other groups to accomplish common projects of great need in our area. They also assist with marriage ministries, family life ministries and promoting the dignity of human life.
