The Lumen Christi fund was established in 1988 to help meet current and future educational needs in the Diocese of Green Bay.
Funding for Lumen Christi came from the $8 million raised in a diocesan-wide campaign. It was invested through two separate endowment funds — one for Catholic schools and the other a general fund — that are administered by the Catholic Foundation.
Each year Lumen Christi distributes:
- funds to support religious education in every parish — usually $750-$1,000 per year for a total of $3.5 million since 1989
- an annual per student contribution to every Catholic school, totaling more than $5.4 million since 1989
- tuition assistance and scholarships for the professional and academic development of educational leaders in our Catholic schools and religious education programs for a total of $2.3 million since 1989
Since 1988, the initial $8 million endowment has grown to more than $12 million. Furthermore, the Lumen Christi fund has distributed more than $11 million to parish religious education programs, Catholic schools and as scholarships for educators.
